This well proportioned Victorian semi was capable of housing a large family in some comfort. The reality was that much of the ground floor was poorly connected. Our approach focused on making the existing basement and ground floor spaces work together. The existing kitchen and dining space was opened up, to improve the sense of space in both rooms and a new kitchen brought the space up to date. The existing extension was upgraded thermally and we replaced all the windows. In tandem with this, we subtly improved the connection into the kitchen, which in turn made access to the garden much easier. The principal basement room was tanked to deal with a severe damp problem, and transformed into a cinema room and snug. The rest of the house was decorated, and new bespoke sash windows fitted throughout.
